A Case of Essential Thrombocythemia Preceding Myeloid Metaplasia
Abstract
Myeloid metaplasia is a syndrome characterized by splenomegaly, leukoerythroblastic
changes in the peripheral blood and gradual replacement of marrow by fibrosis.
Occasionally it is transformed from other chronic myeloproliferative disorders such as
polycythemia vera, chronic myelogenous leukemia, and essential thrombocythemia during
its late course. We experienced a 18 year-old female patients of myeloid metaplasia
confirmed by necropsy of bone marrow, liver, and spleen, which was transformed from
essential thrombocythemia 2 years after treatment with various chemotherapeutic agents
and plateletpheresis.
